This year, it felt like the longest Black Friday/Cyber Monday/Cyber Week season we’ve ever experienced in the USA. We saw early access sales starting midway through October, and unprecedented discounts as retailers try to make up for the slowing of the economy. Today, Giving Tuesday, we take a pause to redirect into what makes the holiday season more… human.
Every year since 2020, each team member at Modern Nursery submits a charity dear to their heart for us to partner with for Giving Tuesday (see last year’s). This year, we’ve chosen the Roc Solid Foundation - submitted by our team member Rachel. This foundation really made an impression on her when she was asked by her friend (both pictured to the right) to help with fundraising materials for the organization. After diving into Roc Solid's background and meeting the team, her love for the mission grew - Play Defeats Cancer is such a strong motive! She now thoroughly enjoys volunteering her time and talents to Roc Solid, something we encourage at Modern Nursery by allotting a half-day every month to volunteer with charities.
Roc Solid was founded by someone who survived childhood cancer, and firmly believes the power of play coupled with an incredible team of doctors helped them endure this hardship. With this in mind, the foundation supplies kids with Ready Bags when they’re diagnosed, which come with comfort items for traveling to distant hospitals to begin treatment, as well as toys and games to offer fun distractions while in the hospitals. During treatment, Roc Solid comes in with the supreme gift of play - and teams across the country build playsets for the children! They’re hoping to expand the program this year to reach every child diagnosed during the holidays with the Gift of Hope campaign, because every child deserves to play, even when they spend their holidays in the hospital.
